Having evacuation equipment is only part of an effective emergency plan. Staff also need to know how to deploy it, use it safely, communicate with the person being assisted and work within their organisation’s emergency procedures.

Our experienced trainers come to your premises and provide structured, practical training using evacuation chairs, sledges and related equipment. We keep group sizes small enough to give delegates meaningful hands-on practice and trainer feedback.

The breakaway training helped me feel more confident and showed me how to keep myself safe without harming the service user. The trainer made the learning both teacher-led and student-centred, which helped me understand the techniques better.

The trainer is the best, I learnt new Breakaway tactics in a very easy way. It was easy to assimilate because the trainer knows how to catch attention and ensure you understand what was said.

Common Questions

A suitable staircase is normally required for realistic practical chair and sledge training. We will discuss your premises and the available training area before confirming delivery.
Yes. We deliver training throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Each certificate shows a renewal date set under our training policy. We recommend refresher training sooner if your risk assessment, equipment, staff or procedures change, or if there are any doubts about staff competence.
Fire-safety law does not simply state that every organisation must buy a particular chair or sledge course. Organisations responsible for premises must make suitable fire-safety and emergency arrangements, including for people who may need assistance to evacuate, and provide appropriate staff information, instruction and training. The exact arrangements should follow the premises’ risk assessment and the law applicable in that part of the UK.
We cap standard chair and sledge courses at 12 delegates so each person has sufficient hands-on practice and trainer feedback.
A Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan is an individual plan used in appropriate settings for a person who may need assistance to evacuate safely. Our courses explain the importance of individual evacuation needs and how equipment may fit within the organisation’s wider emergency arrangements.
Yes, subject to the equipment and trainer competence available. Tell us the make and model when booking so we can confirm the appropriate course arrangements.

Legal and emergency-planning context

Relevant fire-safety duties vary across the UK. Our training supports staff competence and emergency preparedness, but organisations remain responsible for ensuring that their fire risk assessments, evacuation plans, equipment, staffing and procedures meet the requirements that apply to their premises and location.
